We are on the hunt for an experienced Vice President of Sales to join one of the UK’s most exciting VC backed Ed tech start-ups. You will be responsible for growing SAM Education division by driving revenue and leading our sales teams. Reporting to our COO, VP Sales will lead, mentor and expand our geographical sales teams across EMEA, APAC and Americas.

Key Responsibilities

  • Devise and execute a global strategy to drive revenue and market share
  • Maximise sales opportunities by implementing customer and partner business plans
  • Implementing strategy to meet retention and repeat purchase targets

Head of Manufacturing and Asia Operations

 

THE CANDIDATE

We're looking for an exceptional leader who understands how industrial design, electronics, mechanics, firmware and software apps come together in a product like SAM Labs and how it all gets manufactured to delight our consumers. You're experienced working in a dynamic environment, successfully managing a local team in Hong Kong or Shenzhen along with a handful of Contract Manufacturers and OEMs executing new products and meeting availability dates  under tight deadlines and with cost constraints. You're happy to roll up your sleeves and solve day-to-day issues while having the ability to identify, allocate resources and capacity plan for future product execution. You feel very comfortable managing while in the office, on the road, on the phone, at the CM or OEM, wherever and however.

 KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • You’ll be leading our Asia Operations team of Electrical, Mechanical and Industrial engineers, Logistics coordination, Quality assurance, control and inspection and Sourcing while also understanding the needs of the entire company (marketing, sales, product design, design engineering, etc.). You’ll manage the local internal teams and external CMs and OEMs responsible for manufacturing our products.
  • The team you’ll lead is the nexus for product execution. Our team in London will be driving new product concept ideation, design and development and turning over projects to your team, our Asia Operations team to flawlessly execute.
  • You’ll ensure detailed coordination and constant communication with our team in the UK.
  • You’ll Develop and implement a comprehensive sourcing strategy and optimize our various manufacturing capabilities pipeline and strategic supply base – keeping our organisation nimble, cost effective, and efficient.
  • You’ll implement quality control processes which ensure suppliers are complying with global regulatory, product safety, ethical and compliance standards. You and your team will craft success criteria for quality and safety related to product performance, cost and delivery.
  • You will “own” the timeline from turn-over from SAM Labs UK until product is shipped
  • You’ll recruit and shape your team locally and offer sound guidance on adding talent to SAM Labs UK
  • You’ll demonstrate sound business judgment and contribute to the strategic direction of the organisation.

 

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS

  • 10+ years (5 years minimum) with a proven history of shipping reliable and appealing products (some combination of toys, robotic products, consumer electronics, industrial and medical solutions, etc
  • Strong toy/game industry knowledge
  • Proven leadership experience growing and managing geographically distributed teams (Hong Kong/Shenzhen/greater China)
  • Disciplined project management skills – leading, overseeing and executing a continuous pipeline of new product introductions simultaneously
  • Broad knowledge of and experience with consumer product manufacturing and prototyping processes – from 3D printing, CNC Milling, SLS and Vacuum casting to Plastic Injection Mould Tooling / Moulding, Metal stamping, Machining, and electro-mechanical assemblies including charging solutions, compliance testing, Bluetooth stacks and hardware, audio solutions, cameras, antennas, EM shielding, etc.
  • Broad knowledge and experience with Global Product Safety and Regulatory Standards, and product conformance regulations such as ASTM, CPSIA, EN-71, RoHS, REACH, WEEE, CE, FCC, etc.
  • Experience building a manufacturing capabilities pipeline for new tech products
  • Understanding and proven ability to integrate complex subsystems into a cost engineered consumer product
  • Knowledge of the issues common to electromechanical products, especially relative to BLE communications
  • Great written, presentation, communication and management skills
  • Proven results in identifying, attracting, retaining, managing and leading talent.

Mechanical and Industrial Engineer (potential for Hong Kong SAR/Shenzhen PRC longer term)

We're looking for an exceptional mechanical engineering/industrial engineering team member who understands how industrial design, electronics, mechanics, firmware and software apps come together in a product like SAM Labs and how it all gets manufactured to delight our consumers. You're experienced working in a dynamic environment. You’re a vital part of the local team in Hong Kong or Shenzhen working alongside your team members of electronics engineers, logistics and quality assurance personnel along with sourcing team members all interacting, managing and coordinating a handful of Contract Manufacturers and OEMs executing SAM Labs new products, meeting availability dates under tight deadlines and with cost constraints. You're excited to solve day-to-day issues related to turning mechanical designs in 3D CAD into production ready tooling across a wide array of production processes and equipment. You’re equally as excited working with the CMs or OEMs establishing standard operating procedures for how parts, subassemblies and finished goods are assembled and tested on the production line.   

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

As a vital part of the Operations team you’ll:

  • Product, review, revise, and edit mechanical engineering CAD and product specifications to meet manufacturing requirements.
  • Manages the day-to-day interaction with CM and/or OEMs coordinating all engineering deliverables between SAM Labs and finished goods manufacturer
  • Originate production process specifications, production line standard operating procedures, disseminates detailed drawings and layouts for parts, sub-assemblies, and assemblies and finished goods to manufacturing partners. Maintains information locally and keeps a revision history and files current
  • Act as the facilitator in transforming SAM Labs design intent into parts, sub-assemblies, and assemblies. In parallel transforms printed circuit board (PCB) Gerber files and associated materials and subassemblies into fully functioning looks like/works like prototypes
  • Own the timeline once items are “turned-over” from SAM Labs UK to SAM Labs Asia Operations
  • Oversee prototyping and DFM phase with input from SAM Labs UK based design team
  • Manage implementation of Product Change notices; validates changes and updates product specification file and bills of materials file accordingly
  • Make recommendations to Management on product schedules, risks to time-line, proposed alternatives and cost/time impact of proposals
  • Perform “should cost” modeling for SAM Labs new product concepts
  • Initiate value analysis on finished goods and works both direct with suppliers and wi with wider supply chain and manufacturing team on sourcing components, accessories and packaging  to offer the greatest cost to value ratio throughout the supply chain

 

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS

  • 5+ years with a proven history of shipping reliable and appealing products (some combination of toys, robotic products, consumer electronics, industrial and medical solutions, etc.)
  • Strong toy/game industry knowledge
  • Must have intermediate level skills and competencies in Pro-E Wildfire and SolidWorks 2017 solid modeling software
  • Disciplined project management skills – leading, overseeing and executing a continuous pipeline of new product introductions simultaneously
  • Broad knowledge and experience with consumer product prototyping and manufacturing processes – from 3D printing, CNC Milling, SLS and Vacuum casting to Plastic Injection Mould Tooling / Moulding, Metal stamping, Machining, and electro-mechanical assemblies, line tooling, production fixture design, production automation design and manufacturer guidance.
  • Broad knowledge of materials and material science especially in thermoplastic resins, elastomeric compounds, thin films, applied surface coating materials, etc.
  • Broad knowledge and experience with Global Toy Product Safety and Regulatory Standards, and product conformance regulations such as ASTM, CPSIA, EN-71, RoHS, REACH, WEEE, CE, FCC, etc.
  • Experience working with a team to build a manufacturing capabilities pipeline for new tech product execution

Product

Art Director

We are looking for an exceptional Art Director to be part of the Core Game Team building the next generation of play.

Your key contribution to the Core Game Team is setting up the internal SAM brand and art guidelines on all products across the SAM universe and leading all aspects of graphics, character design, animations and user interfaces. In addition, you will also be responsible for the day-to-day management and direction of designers and external contract resources. This will include monitoring consistency and quality of the work, coaching, making sure the milestones and deadlines are met. You will lead the recruitment of the internal art team and will be tasked with identifying contract resources, so having a strong network of great artists is important.

You will report into the VP Product and work very closely with the Senior Product Owner, Senior Game Designer, UX Toy Designer and the Core Game Team to take the SAM universe to the next level.

Responsibilities

  • Defining, creating and maintaining SAM universe art and brand guidelines, consistent application on all products
  • Ensuring consistency and quality in the final output of the design elements within the mobile app and the storyline
  • Working closely with the Game Designer to visualise all game design elements and mechanics
  • Owning the design and colouring of the SAM universe storylines and characters
  • Leading team of designers including their coaching and training
  • Point person for external art vendors and art contractors
  • Working closely with Product Owners on the respective product design requirements

As a Senior Product Owner you will be responsible for leading all aspects of product development. This includes owning the product roadmaps and delivery, overall stewardship of the ideation process and features requirements documentation with the product team, leading user testing process, making optimization decisions (from metrics), and having a strong influence on the overall quality of our product.

Reporting into the VP of Product and working closely with all departments you will ensure that the final result is well-balanced, fun and engaging.

You will be responsible for supporting our current portfolio and working on new products. Reporting to VP Product, you will help take our business to the next level.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain current portfolio of products

Requirements

Interaction Designer

We are looking for an exceptional Interaction Designer to be part of SAM’s Core Game Team, building the next generation of play.

We’ve got extremely exciting products in the making, intersecting physical toys and digital gaming in story-led and immersive experiences, leveraging games to teach kids the joys of programming and creativity.

Your key contribution to the Core Game Team is to take ownership of the experience around the hardware and firmware of SAM’s products and work closely with the UX Designer (linking software to story, user interfaces and mobile touch interaction), to transform SAM into a product that the user interacts with perfectly. Your role is to create the best possible user experience for the consumers and able to visually and verbally present product solutions.

You must also always be on the lookout for ways to simplify product designs and integrate a mix of interaction and visual experience into the business’s product. A key requirement for this role is constant evolution and adaptation as the product, market, and consumer needs evolve.

You will constantly engage yourself in consumer research, information architecture, and usability testing for effective performance of your functions.

You will report into the VP Product and work very closely with Product Owners, Senior Game Designer, UX Designer and the Core Game Team to take the SAM universe to the next level.

 

Responsibilities

  • Analysing SAM product, user metrics and consumer requirements to create on-brand design solutions that maximises the product’s potential, meet business goals and requirements
  • Finding the best solution to create seamless interaction between hardware and software
  • Providing tested frameworks and latest best practice on interaction design and information architecture to effectively conceptualise and communicate detailed interaction behaviour
  • Leading the interaction design of the product across the product lifecycle; working closely with the UX Designer (and product development team) to merge hardware, firmware, software into a high quality coherent user experience
  • Consistently reviewing competitor products to provide clear assessment of pointers for SAM product user interaction improvements
  • Understand usability principles that help drive successful design as well as partner interface guidelines

 

You

  • Have 4+ years of interaction design, visual design, or user experience design
  • Have experience with interaction design across both physical and digital products.
  • Have a keen understanding of behavioural economics and are able to predict user behaviour.
  • Have experience creating test-plans, executing them and identify key-learnings.
  • Are experienced working with a product team as well as the application of lean user experience processes in products

  • Promotion & Representation: promote SAM Labs products to schools across China, targeting substantial sales growth. This includes carrying out extensive visits and product training. Head of Performance Marketing

SAM Labs is looking for an experienced Global Head of Performance Marketing to join the one of the most exciting startups in the UK. We are looking for a leader with the strong experience necessary to head up a data-driven, cross-channel team to drive our global consumer sales. Reporting to the VP Marketing, this high-profile role will develop and execute paid media strategies to help take our business to the next level.

Responsibilities:

  • Build, develop, and execute a comprehensive paid media strategy to drive consumer sales
  • Create growth initiatives to drive B2C revenue
  • Own the budget for all paid/performance channels, with targets set based on tight CAC/CPA requirements
  • Liaise with stakeholders across the marketing and product teams to ensure objectives are aligned
  • Provide strong leadership to a lean but powerful team (internal and agency support where required) which you will build based on your vision

  • Work closely with incoming ecommerce manager to ensure alignment between advertising and landing page messaging and creative
